Chelsea’s second preseason match will see them take on Scottish Premier League champions Celtic at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. Having spent four years in Indiana during university, I can attest that the summers can be quite harsh, so good luck to the team!
With the level of opposition increasing, head coach Enzo Maresca will be looking for better execution from his players compared to their performance against Wrexham. Maresca mentioned after that game that he saw signs of his ideas starting to take hold among the squad and will be looking for further evidence of that progress.

Chelsea Team News: Out of the 28 players who traveled, 21 featured in the first game. Those who missed out included two of the four goalkeepers and the quartet of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Nicolas Jackson, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Axel Disasi, who are all dealing with minor injuries. They may be available for this match, along with Moisés Caicedo, who joined the tour over the weekend.
While the performance against Wrexham wasn’t impressive, young striker Marc Guiu stood out with his tireless running. Both Reece James and Roméo Lavia had decent shifts in central midfield during the more coherent first-half performance. The team will aim to build on that.
Celtic Team News: Former Chelsea youth coach Brendan Rodgers returned to Celtic last summer after four years at Leicester City and continued Celtic’s dominance in Scottish football, winning their third consecutive title and 13th in the last 14 years.
This will be Celtic’s fifth and final preseason match, with their season starting next weekend. They recently beat Manchester City 4-3, adding to victories against DC United and Queen’s Park, and a draw against Ayr United.
Previous Encounters: Surprisingly, Chelsea and Celtic have never played a competitive match against each other. They did, however, play in a couple of friendlies about 20 years ago: a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge in 2006 and a 4-2 win for Chelsea in Seattle in 2004.
